About Cortina Gardens

Cortina Gardens - A third generation family business since 1964

Cortina Gardens - A third generation family business since 1964 dedicated to providing great customer service and high-quality plant materials!

Cortina Gardens was founded in 1964 by Mary Cortina, who was soon joined in the nursery by her husband Quirino. They raised all of their perennials, sold shrubs, and vegetables, and created tree standards, making trees out of certain flowers. They did all of their own propagating in their greenhouses and spent January and February planning out the coming year’s schedule. Mary always felt that Litchfield County was the most beautiful in all of Connecticut.

In 1992 Mary retired and her daughter Margherita, affectionately known by all of her customers as Margie, took over the business. Margie, along with her husband Bill, expanded the business and grew a dedicated set of customers. Together they expanded the annual and vegetable growing operations. Also expanding the selection of locally grown perennials and shrubs for their many dedicated customers to choose from.

Margie’s son Bill Leviness started working at Cortina Gardens in 1998, building the landscaping and garden maintenance part of the business.

In 2017 Bill Leviness took over the daily operations of Cortina Gardens, he continues to grow the landscaping side of the business and has aspirations to expand the growing operation and the retail partof the business for the future!
